WHAT YOU’LL CATCH

Captain Jeff specializes in inshore fishing for redfish, speckled trout and flounder. Jeff also knows the nearshore areas where red snapper are caught on wrecks and around the oil rigs that dot the Southern Louisiana coast.

Redfish = Trophy Fish

Redfish are the trophy fish that everyone wants to catch. They are the hard-fighting king of our inshore fishing. They are caught throughout the Gulf states, but Venice, Lousiana is home to the biggest and best redfish fishery in the world.

Best times to catch:

  • Caught year-round, but the Fall is the best time. There’s a reason we call it Red October!

Top Gamefish

Speckled trout, or specks, are another top gamefish that we fish for here in Southern Louisiana. Specks are caught all over the Gulf states, but the fishery here is abundant and holds the promise of an opportunity to catch a real trophy fish.

Best times to catch:

  • These fish can be caught year-round, but the best time to catch a big one is during the Spring – April and May.

Worth the Effort

Flounder are a flatfish that many anglers consider the toughest to catch, yet tastiest of all our inshore gamefish. We like to fish them with soft plastics tipped with shrimp.

Best times to catch:

  • Late Summer/early Fall is flounder season. It’s a great time to fish as the heat of Summer subsides into more comfortable Fall weather.

Redder Is Better

Red Snapper are a hard-fighting, bottom-oriented fish that are found among the wrecks and reefs near shore. Louisiana offers one of the more expansive red snapper fishing opportunities among all the Gulf States.

Best times to catch:

  • Subject to change by the Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife & Fisheries, but in general the season is from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
